The oak and the holly sit next to each other on the wheel of the year cycle which is perfect as oak and holly are inextricably connected in the form of the Oak King and the Holly King, representing the light and the dark halves of the year. At the Summer Solstice, The Oak King is in his full power, but on the longest day at the Summer Solstice, when the days begin to get shorter, the Holly King starts to gain his strength.

Whether they battle on the solstices or the equinoxes, they depend on and rely on each others waxing and waning, allowing death and rebirth in an endless cycle. This artwork was part of a series I made for the 2024 calendar celebrating 13 Celtic trees.

The handkerchief is sewn by me in Wales. The image is printed onto an untreated cotton fabric certified as 100% organic. The approximate size for each handkerchief is 320 mm x 320 mm. Wash at 30°. Every handkerchief is sent out with the explanation of where the inspiration came from and with full care instructions.

Each order is wrapped in acid free, unbleached tissue paper and includes a hand written thank you note. I am happy to address this to recipients of gifts at no extra cost. Just let me know in the notes when you place your order.

Please note that one photo features the seasonal box contents which are not included with the handkerchief.
